How AIT degree helped you in achieving your career potential/goals:

In the mid-1970s, as a young graduate from a middle-income family in Sri Lanka I had no hope of furthering my postgraduate studies at a good university abroad due to financial constraints and foreign exchange restrictions. AIT offered me a full scholarship and supported me to gain a Master’s degree and a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management. AIT gave me hope.

Mr. Talukdar joined East Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (EPWAPDA) in February 1965 [subsequently renamed as Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) in 1972] and served the Authority/Board in various capacities until mid June 1984. He worked mostly in planning and design departments of EPWAPDA/BWDB. Most prestigious part of his career in EPWAPDA/BWDB was his key role in establishing Flood Forecasting & Warning System in Bangladesh and in planning of the irrigation canal system of the “Teesta Barrage Project”. ….read more

Recently the Bangladesh Government has posted Dr. Jiban as a Chief of the Asian Development Bank affairs at Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance. Immediately before Dr. Jiban served the Embassy of Bangladesh at Tokyo as Charge d’ Affaires, Minister for five years (September 2011 – September 2016), prior to that Dr. Jiban served the World Bank Headquaters at Washington, DC as a special assignment.

Mr. Somethearith Din, a self-established entrepreneur who has co-founded the Frangipani Villa Hotel Chain, which has been claimed the first proudly Cambodian-owned Boutique Hotel chain. He was architect and having graduated Master Degree of Urban Environmental Management (UEM) from the prominent university, The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, and served as Country Manager of UN-HABITAT after spending nearly ten years in urban development field. He also used to serve as a Part Time Lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Norton University. He is now a honorable visiting lecturer at Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC) for entrepreneurship course.

Mr. Somethearith is no ordinary architect and urban manager but also outstanding entrepreneur and public speaker who has grown his successful boutique hotel business with a very small capital. Apart from his business, he also serves the role as President of Cambodia Hotel Association (CHA), Vice- President of ASEAN Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHRA), a Founding Member of Cambodia Tourism Federation (CTF), an Executive Member of Public Private Working Group on Tourism, and also an Advisory Member of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC).

During my time at AIT, I have learnt to think, research and analyze in a systematic way in order to find answers and come up with conclusions. All these skills have been useful and applicable to all daily life situations.
